We are 10!

During May 2024 The Freya Foundation celebrated 10 years of being a charity!

This is a massive achievement for a small charity given the current economic climate.

The Freya Foundation was set up by Kelly & Dave Gilbert after their daughter Freya was diagnosed with PDH Deficiency a month before her 1st Birthday. Little was known about the condition when Freya was diagnosed and they were left pretty much on their own to come to terms with the diagnosis and to find out information for themselves, a position a lot of families found themselves in.

Over the last 10 years, The Freya Foundation have strived to support families living with or affected by PDH Deficiency and are currently the only known and first UK charity to start a research project specifically into PDH Deficiency.

Each year we hold a family meet up where families come together for the weekend to socialise and support one another and share their experiences with the condition.

Of course we couldn’t let a little thing like turning 10 go by without a celebration.

Every year, Kelly sets herself a challenge to gain support and raise awareness, this could be anything from running to pulling a plane!

The challenge for 2024 is for her to run the distance of 10 marathons in just shy of 10 months, this includes the distance of a marathon on 21st September 2024. Following this mammoth achievement we will be holding a celebration event in Bristol which everyone is welcome.

Due to capacity we have had to ticket this event, and tickets can be purchased by following the link below:
